Literature Text

Who dwells in the high reaches
Has far to fall but much to see.
Be quick to catch at clouds
That race the wind and listen
To the tongues that rivers speak.
Don't fear the heights or close your eyes and ears to the world.

vision: i like the point of view taken here: no 'you' or 'i', but a nice third person generality. i feel that taking this point of view allowed the poet to reap a harvest from the over-worked ground of the subject matter.

originality: in the world of poetry, the theme of 'the rewards of being bold' is the aforementioned over-worked ground. and while it is cliche (but what theme ISN'T in poetry) the poet handles it deftly, and therefore successfully.

technique: free verse can, in its worst incarnations, be long-winded and have a tendency to lose itself. here, however, the poet communicates their thoughts and imagery succinctly and well.

impact: the poem communicated itself to me, and i was touched by it...i was not however transported or over-come by it.

all-in-all, well done!
